ERA Property Movers - Escondito, CA

January 13, 2012

Ross sent us a recap of his experience with ERA Property Movers. Following is what he had to say:

Bob:

I received a phone call today from someone who said that he was representing ERA Property Movers. He said they were based in California.

On the web, I found: ERA Property Movers, Inc. in Escondido, California

www.erarealestateca.com
www.era.com/office/index.jsp?officekey=24623

I do not know if this is them, but the name fits.
  • He knew that I had a Grand Luxxe contract. I did not confirm that to him.
  • He said that they had heard that the resort was about to become aligned with Wyndham Hotels. Due to this they wanted to purchase 15% of the time available.
  • He said that the first step would be a non-binding proposal from them for our contract.
  • He said that they would pay current market value but he declined to say what that is.
  • To start the process, he said that they would need some information about my contract.

I declined to give any information and informed him that I was not interested.

After we received Ross' email, we put in a call to the office in Escondido and found some interesting warning signs:
  • The person who answered the call first acknowledged that the company does not have anything to do with Timeshares and that the legal team for the national franchise was looking into the people who are allegedly work for ERA. OK, that sounds possible.
  • We asked if the owner was in. The person said the owner/broker was out at a funeral. Really?
  • We asked if the other people who were listed as principals or officers were in. These individuals were listed in a business listing I found. First the VP was not active. Secondly, the President was only part time. Really?
  • Then we asked the for the owner's name. She gave me the name, which was one letter off from the name listed in Manta.com. Really?
  • Of course, you know we did not get a call from the "concerned owner".
  • Additional Websites:
Bottom line to this alert....be careful. Shady companies take the names that are very close to names of legitimate companies. Until we hear otherwise, we will place this company in our dubious "Hall of Same".

Thank you Ross....
