Mayan Palace Demolition - Views From Adie

April 22, 2012

desc
The Mayan Palace is now reduced to two towers. The two remaining towers are scheduled to change. Sky Bar? Pool area? Restaurant on the lower level? Stay tuned....

April 15, 2012 is about the day Phase Two of the Mayan Palace changes began. The manager of the Cafe Rouge told us on March 30, as we enjoyed a very nice dinner and bottle of red wine, that he would be closing within the next couple of weeks. We were surprised to hear how early he was closing for the summer. No, he said, not for the summer. For good! For good in this location, that is. He would next be opening in the Mercado area of Tower III A or B in a much larger restaurant.

Well we had not given much thought to the issue until a day or so ago when ssguilly asked in the Owners Forum about the Mayan Palace pools and whether they would be open in late June. Our contact at Nuevo Vallarta said no, the Mayan Palace would be closed for the summer for renovations and so would its pool.

Now we have proof. Adie and her family were in Nuevo Vallarta and returned on the 21st of April. Today, we received her photos of the Mayan Palace and her update. Here is what she had to say:

Part One: Here are some of my photos of the Mayan Palace demolition. I wasn't sure how to upload these photos so that all would see them. Please let me know if you have any trouble opening them and I will try to do it again.

Update that I do not have a photo for: Thatch roof of the Mayan Palace was being removed as we were leaving on the morning of April 21.

I never got a straight answer about what they are doing with it. Most of the workers there thought that the entire thing was coming down, but others said that they thought they were renovating. The Del Lago is closed for renovations for at least one month. Lots of dirt moving and removing of plants and trees. They seem to be saving everything from the buildings and shipping the materials out in moving vans. Trees are also being saved and placed other spots.

On a completely different note I saw a lot of work being done on the Grand Bliss pool construction, but could not take pictures because of the fences that they had up.

Part Two: More info on the property during the closing of Mayan Palace:
  1. Since Del Lago is closed other restaurants are doing brunch in the morning to make up for it. The two that I know of are Havana Moon (buffet) and Burger Custom Made (a la carte).
  2. Jade has moved completely to the Grand Mayan.
  3. They started doing massages in a room on the second floor of GLX2 because people were asking for it. However, GLX2 has no spa facilities so it does not give you whole experience that one would want when getting a massage. Will email you again if I think of something else.

Now, here are Adie's photos:

The Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico is changing. First the south tower was demolished. Now there are pumps emptying the Infinity pond, which is one of our favorites. There are five other Mayan Palace structures in the Vidanta system. The newest is in Acapulco, Mexico, and it opened in late 2010.
desc
The Mayan Palace infinity pond overlooks Bahia de Banderas. Now there are changes. The Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace is closed for the summer and construction crews are inside and out. Stay tuned...
desc
This photo shows the tractors on the Mayan Palace roof at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. They are there to start another demolition project. We hear many outcomes but are not certain of any. Stay tuned....

desc
This view of the Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace roof shows tractors getting ready to break up top floor concrete. It will be interesting to watch what ultimately becomes of this tower and the next. Restaurant? Swim Club? Stay tuned....

Hollow spaces are now what were comfortable and occupied units at the Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The building will undergo changes over the summer season. Watch what comes of it as it reopens in November, 2012.
desc
This photo shows the entry way to the Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta on April 19, 2012. The thatched roof is coming down and other changes to the building are taking place. This Mayan Palace property will be used for something other than rooms, we suspect.

desc
Crews were dismantling the thatched roof over the entry to the Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace as Adie and her family were leaving on the 21st of April. Workers were telling different stories about what would become of the Mayan Palace building. Only time will tell.
desc
Mayan Palace units at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico are changing. It is possible the second tower could be dismantled entirely or changed from a hotel-like structure to some other use. Regardless, we are sure the outcome will be acceptable.
desc
Trucks are moving all furniture, office fixtures, wine, groceries, exercise equipment and other movable items from the Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace building. It is closed for the summer while renovations take place. The Mayan Palace Pool is closed for the summer as well. We suspect there will be an entirely new look in November. Stay tuned...

desc
The second Mayan Palace tower at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico is now under deconstruction. There could be new venues or there could be open space to allow guests in Grand Luxxe towers III, IV and V to have views of the ocean. Stay tuned....
desc
Workers at the Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico Mayan Palace seem to be gently handling the trees they are taking out of the ground. It seems they will be replacing them or using them in another place on this expanding Vidanta property. The Mayan Palace is closed for the summer. What it will look like in November when the season starts again is anyone's guess.
desc
This photo shows the trees that were carefully planted around the Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico are being preserved so they can be replanted. The Nuevo Vallarta Mayan Palace is now closed for the summer. It will emerge as something entirely different in the Fall.

desc
This photo is a graphic representation of the amount of work taking place on the Mayan Palace building in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The entry way created by poking a large hole in the side of the building allows workers to access the ground floor of what was an operating hotel about three weeks ago, at the end of March, 2012.
desc
The Mayan Palace tower in this photo was the stair well and elevator for buildings that were on the left and right side. The building to the right was demolished between November 2011 and March 2012. This structure may come down as well. Certainly, workers are leaving nothing but a shell at this time. The location of this work is Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico at the expanding Grupo Vidanta property.

Part Two - Cafe del Lago Repairs and New Luxxe Residence Sales Office
(PLEASE CLICK TO OPEN AND CLOSE)

desc
There are changes at Cafe del Lago located on the Mayan Property at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The walkways are gone and crews are relocating trees. Not sure the ultimate outcome will be, but we are sure there will be a pleasing one.
desc
Cafe del Lago at the Vidanta property at Nuevo Vallarta is where breakfast and lunches are served through out the tourist season. The patio is perfect - high enough to provide views you can't see from anywhere else except on your deck. This photo shows the changes taking place. The tractor is where table should be....stay tuned....
desc
The structure in this photo is located between the Grand Mayan and Grand Bliss buildings and growing. It has been under construction for over two years. We believe it will be the sales office for the Grand Luxxe Residence units, which are three and four undivisible bedroom units currently planned for Grand Luxxe Towers IV A and B and V. This is only rumored, and the reason for the rumor is there are no models of these units in the Grand Bliss tower. Stay tuned.....

Part Three - Grand Bliss, River Walk and Punta Pool Areas
(PLEASE CLICK TO OPEN AND CLOSE)

desc
The building to the right is the Grand Bliss. The ones on the left are the Grand Mayan buildings. Between these two resort facilities in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico is a new building that may become the sales office for the Luxxe Residences. Pure speculation, and only time will tell.
desc
Trucks are still moving along the Ameca River while they transport dirt and other materials to and from the Punta building area where the Ameca River meets Bahia de Banderas.
desc
This view of the Ameca River shows the road taken by trucks and heavy equipment used to dig and transport dirt from one end of the Vidanta Mayan property at Nuevo Vallarta to another. The buildings on the right are Grand Luxxe Residence Club towers and the Punta. We hear this will become a river walk, which will be a pleasant way to walk from Towers III, IV and V to the beach.

desc
This virtual walk along the Ameca River leads us close to the Grand Luxxe Tower I and Punta buildings. The Punta is located closest to the beach and where pools wrap the front of the area in front of the building. Across the river is the Bird Sanctuary, which is a protected ares. This area is the western most point of the Vidanta Property at Nuevo Vallart, Mexico. The easterly border is Highway 200.
desc
This view looking east in Nuevo Vallarta shows the Punta and Grand Luxxe Tower I buildings from the beach. Immediately in front of the Punta building are the pools and lounging areas. There are three tiers, and it seems plenty of space for all Grand Luxxe members to enjoy their vacations.
desc
The Punta Pools surround the front of the Punta. In front of the Punta pools is a beach area, which is filled with lounges for guest's use. Additionally, there are three hot tubs that are perfect for gatherings. Beyond is the Bahia de Banderas and a beach that stretches about a mile for nice jogs and swims in the Pacific Ocean.

desc
This photo shows the wave breaking on the beach in front of the Punta at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The seating areas are for all Grand Luxxe members. What a view! Also, wait staff use Segway Scooters to deliver drinks and food from the Si Snack Shack.

Thank you Adie. We all appreciate you keeping us up to date. Stay tuned...
