Nuevo Vallarta From The Air....An Overview Of Construction

November 21, 2011

Plans for the Nuevo Vallarta Vidanta property are ambitious, to say the least. But, a plan is typically any diagram or list of steps with timing and resources, used to achieve an objective according to Wikipedia.

With that in mind, we take a plunge by showing what we learned about the Grupo Vidanta plans.

We thought photos could relay the plans way better than words. Three photos with labels provide a good starting point.

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO OPEN OR CLOSE VIEWS OF THE PROPERTY TAKEN TAKEN FROM THE AIR IN DECEMBER 2010 AND THE 2011 PLAN.

A fellow Grand Luxxe Member (We assume so, because we do not know his or her identity.) sent these photos to us last December. Thank you!

We included labels on the overview. Just click on the photos to expand them and the labels.

It is amazing to us to see what has taken place during the past twelve months, especially given the state of the economy.

This architect's rendering displays the future vision of the Grupo Vidanta property at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico as of November 2011. Changes could come about, true. We will see.

Following are photos that show locations of construction projects that have been completed during the last 12 months or are still under way. Note: We are still puttiing some of our photos up, so please be patient. Thank you.

Grand Luxxe Pools (04) Nov 18 2011

Grand Luxxe Pools at the Punta

We are told most of the swimming pools in front of the Grand Luxxe Punta are pools for all Grand Luxxe members. There is likely to be a pool area for Punta residents. However, the pool area is so large it is not likely any allocation of pools to Punta residents will take away from Grand Luxxe members who are staying in other buildings.

Pools in front of the Punta are infinity pools looking out to the ocean, access to the beach, two swim up bars and whirl pools. These will be a great finishing touch to an area that in 2010 was nothing but beach.

Grand Luxxe Punta Nov 18 2011

The Punta Building - Soft Opening November 11, 2011

The Ameca River and Bahia de Banderas meet on the northern and southern borders of the bird sanctuary. The Punta is standing in all its splendor and glory at the northern entrance. Surrounded by pools on the beach end of the building and water features on either side, the Punta is like its own peninsula.

The lobby is a completely open-air space. A Make Your Own Hamburger bar sits on the right side of the lobby as you gaze at the ocean. It is stainless steel and sleek. The make your own hamburger bar is very popular at Riviera Maya.

Punta Lobby Ready To Open - November 28, 2011

A regular bar is in the center of the lobby. Perpendicular to this bar is a long, granite seating table with bar stools. Looks very modern and elegant.

The Punta has the smallest number of units but is home to the largest units currently on the property. We believe there are twelve to fourteen Luxxe Presidential Suites, eight suites that have not yet been defined and at least one four bedroom suite.

Here are a few views of the Punta as we saw it during our two week stay the last two weeks of November, 2011.

Grand Luxx II Tower.jpg

Luxxe Tower II

The new ramp to Grand Luxxe Towers III A and B was a source of considerable discussion at Nuevo Vallarta during the last week of November. The reason is the rooms on the second and third floors have an outlook that is directly in to the side of the new hillside created by the Tower III ramp.

What will happen to these units? We are told they will be taken out of inventory and used by managers of each of the resort buildings on the property. Each manager is required to live on site.

So, mystery solved. Yes, guests were inconvenienced during a valuable vacation. But, these units will no longer be the source of controversy.

Grand Luxxe Tower II is very popular for its views of Puerto Vallarta and the Bird Sanctuary. In fact all the towers enjoy a beautiful south side view.

With the new ramp to Tower III impeding the North Side view for lower units, we are told the issue is moot - they will not be part of the guest inventory.

GL Tower III A and Tower 2

Luxxe Towers III A & B - November 19, 2011

Grand Luxxe Tower III A opened on November 11, 2011. Its soft opening was anything but soft. New Internet and TV systems were installed incorrectly so guests were not treated to access to either. Bandwidth issues compounded the inconveniences. Electricity may have been interrupted. Leaks from pools that were being filled from above startled unsuspecting guests. The eighth and ninth floors were not ready.

Bottom line: Disaster for some and inconvenience for others.

We were told that the normal process is for management to spend a week in units in new towers to be certain cranky problems are discovered under wraps. Unfortunately, the normal did not take place because of other unforeseen delays. Result was the synchronization of reservations with available units was not a smooth process.

Management did everything it could to appease disgruntled guests. One or two did not accept the overtures. They were given what they wanted. Most of the others accepted management's offers to mitigate an unfortunate situation.

A week later, chatter and grumbling subsided and was replaced by the sound of children playing in pools. A week after that, the defining sound of silence took over the pools and other area. Bellmen were smiling again and cart drivers said all was calm again.

Whew!

Grand Luxxe Tower IV A Nov 19 2011 (03)

Luxxe Towers IV A & B - November 19, 2011

Grand Luxxe Towers IV A and B were in the formative stages during the last two weeks of November, 2011. Although the configurations appear to be similar to Grand Luxxe Towers III A & B, we will not actually know the outcome until the construction process is farther along.

Rumors are these towers will also offer Grand Luxxe Villas and Grand Luxxe Suites. Some may be only two bedroom Luxxe Villa or Suite units, which means there will be one door to the unit instead of two, which is the case now. If this does occur, then it is likely offers to prospective buyers will expand to a more limiting concept. Offer could included new designs, features and pricing options. But that is for another day and discussion.

We also heard that the second set of Grand Luxxe pools will be on the south side of Grand Luxxe Towers IV A & B. This would give the units in these two towers an attractive location advantage because guests would be closer to the pools and golf facilities. Could Grand Luxxe Towers IV A & B also contain Grand Luxxe Presidential units, or even four bedroom units? Who knows at this time. Only the owner, and even he may not know yet.
Stay tuned....

Train Station Nov 27 2011 (01)

Train Station / Reception Areas - November, 2011

''Come with us as we go back to the future.... November 2012. There are two primary points of entry. One is near Highway 200 and the other is in front of the Grand Bliss resort. The Highway 200 access point is where we will arrive and leave for the airport. The one near the Grand Bliss is where we leave a train and board a golf cart train that will take us to our respective resorts and ultimate destination.

We hear the connection between the two access points will be by rail. In fact, we see the railroad tracks while on the golf course. Now, ordinarily, we would say "Good enough for me....trains are for sure." But, we have seen stranger changes take place in Nuevo Vallarta than taking out train tracks that are in place.. Therefore, we are open to change.

So, in 2012 (maybe), we will board a train from the Highway entrance, board a golf cart train at the interior entrance (Grand Bliss) and enter our units when we arrive at our destination.

We are now in the present.... The golf cart trains are very prompt. They take us from building to building. And, if you want to exit the property at the current entrance, you can take a golf cart train to a stop that is just inside the entrance gate. Every 15 minutes? Maybe every 30 minutes. Anyway, it is very convenient and provides a nice walk to the restaurants near the marina.

We think rental cars and taxis will still access customers from inside the property. The process works well now, and the alternative would be very inconvenient. The alternative would be taking a train every time you want to leave the property. Too many trains and schedules would be horrendous. But, that said, one never knows.

Anyway, this is what we see today:

Punta Arena Nov 28 2011 (01)

Punta Seafood Restaurant - Winner of our Award for Most Improved

We love the setting. Our table is near the beach, the sun is setting over the Pacific, a warm breeze is now gently blowing in the evening air and we are outside. Perfect!

This year we thought we would try this restaurant again. Our first experience was forgettable, primarily because it had recently reopened and everything was in flux.

Wonderful is the word for this year's experience! Food was served hot and well prepared. Excellent presentation. We both had fish (Red Snapper for me and Camarones al Tequilla for my bride.). Very nice sized portions and the food was perfectly seasoned. We had an Esser Cab, which was a nice wine. However the wine part of all restaurants on the property is missing the target, in our opinion.

Give it a try. Write a review on our Restaurant Review page. See if you don't agree that this restaurant wins our award for Most Improved!

Oh, by the way, wouldn't you know it...Dario, our waiter from the Havana Mood for the past two years, recognized and warmly welcomed us. A very nice homecoming, indeed! Now, how great is that!

Congratulations

Yes, the company has ambitious plans. There is much to do. Thankfully, projects in the future will be located far enough away from existing buildings to reduce, if not eliminate from future vacations the level of noise that many experienced during the past couple of months.
