Hurricane Willa - Comments From Nuevo Vallarta

October 24, 2018

From an Aimfair member:
My last update late yesterday afternoon had the rain was coming on and off as showers.
By 6 PM CDT it was steady at least until after 9 PM. This morning we heard water dripping off plants from near our balcony so it had rained recently but stopped by 6 AM. We have some patches of blue showing through fairly ominous dark clouds but it’s only raining out to sea and in the mountains behind the first ones rising behind PV. The river is flowing full but very slowly and waves at its mouth are less than a foot in height. There is a slight breeze and the birds are proclaiming their happiness with the weather. Some pelicans seem to be waiting for full on sunshine as they’re still sitting in the trees they were in yesterday but every once in awhile several fly off reconnoiter only to return within several minutes.

Take care,

From Vida Vacations management:
Hurricane Willa touched land in Sinaloa, north of us. The rain has now stopped, the ocean is back to normal and the skies are clearing up!

Here is the latest from Nuevo Vallarta about the impact of Hurricane Willa:
Hola Sr Jones!

Thank you for your concern, Willa has passed in front of us but didn't turn towards land so we are safe. All we got was constant rain but not even that heavy. The first pic is from the Hurricane Center, the other two were taken from the 9th floor of the Grand Bliss. We are getting higher waves than usual, the malecón area is very quiet with most stores and restaurants closed but so far everything has been just preventive. We look forward to your visit, we should have the sun back in the next couple of days!

Saludos,

Bob -

Now that Willa is slowly working its way north past us I’m going to try to get to the gate again using your pic. The hourly weather forecast says we’ll get two our three more deluges this AM and maybe more lightening the rest of the day so it may be tomorrow before I get to it.
Just saw a passenger jet approach and land over the bay heading north. Have not seen this before. Neither have I seen such large numbers of pelicans sheltering in the trees on the island in the Ameca. The storm surge seems to be less than 3 feet at the river mouth but it’s still causing light swells in the river up to the first bend by Tower 1. So far there is no discernible river bank overflow but it’s early with the heaviest rains over land yet to be seen.
I’ll be in touch...
The reference to the "gate" is the "Little Gate" at the 17th hole tee box. We are still trying to determine just how open that gate is.

PS Our Concierge told me he was one of one hundred twenty employees who stayed all night last night in case things got worse. They were holed up in what he called a bunker under Tower 3. This company and these folks in particular deserve our gratitude even though they didn't have to respond to anything beyond being prepared.
Hotel management is definitely prepared for emergencies. Kudos all around!
Thank you both for providing us with your updates. It looks as though Nuevo Vallarta escaped with no damage again.
