CINIF - Allegedly Requesting Information from Vida Members

February 22, 2017

From an Aimfair Member:
I got a call today from a Mexican official from the CINIF Commission (Mexican Counsel for the Investigation and Development of Guidelines for Financial Services). He was asking me questions about my experience purchasing my first Grand Luxxe membership. He said Federal Officials had been investigating Vida and other groups for some time for fraudulent activities. They had proof that my personal information relating to my purchase had been compromised. They asked if I had lost money thru any scams relating to my purchase. I said no, but I did get a lot of annoying phone calls for some time. He asked it I wanted to report that they gave or sold my personal information to outside groups and if I wanted to join a class action lawsuit. He sent me the following document.

Do you know what is going on? Is this legit?

What we found out:

CINIF
The Mexican standard-setter Consejo Mexicano de Normas de Información Financiera (CINIF) regularly publishes a Spanish language overview of major international news on financial reporting standards. We are pleased that IAS Plus is mentioned as one of the top sources of the information provided in these publications. Please click to access Principales noticias internacionales del entorno de las normas de información financiera (archive of all issues, link to the CINIF website). http://www.cinif.org.mx
A financial reporting standards setting organization deals with fair reporting of financial statements and affairs. All publicly traded companies must comply with financial standards when reporting their financial results at the end of each accounting period. The standards that CINIF issues are the results of discussions with all the leading accounting firms in the country. CINIF is not interested in collecting personal informtion from timeshare owners....period!!

Here is what we found:
  • mbis.com.mx is the fake website mentioned in the caller's email.

  • The mbis.com.mx domain account is suspended.

  • This is not the official website for CINIF.
The following forms are not issued by CINIF:
