Mayan Palace Update - from Actionslax

July 3, 2012

The Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico is a subject of interest. Why? It was the first resort complex built on this Grupo Vidanta property, built in 1997.

Diana and Doug were flying home when they took this photo of the Mayan Palace at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico in 1998. The Mayan Palace was built in 1997, and in 1998, there was not much on the property yet.

Originally, there were four, 3 story buildings, separated by red and yellow towers (elevators and stairs). Between 1997 and July, 2003, Vidanta built three more towers east of the beach, created lakes, started construction of Cafe del Lago and started five Grand Luxxe towers.

This July, 2003 Google Earth image is the earliest satellite image of the Grupo Vidanta property at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The foundations for Cafe del Lago and the Grand Mayan Resorts are under construction at this time. The pools in front of the Grand Mayan was a parking lot back then. Change is the only constant at the Grupo Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico property.

Six years later, by January 2009, the Mayan Property started changing even more. The Grand Luxxe I was nearly complete and the Grand Bliss was under construction between the Grand Mayan and the Mayan Palace.

In January, 2009, the three story Mayan Palace buildings were reaching the end of their useful lives. In this Google Earth image, the property is at its best. However, to the lower right is the Grand Luxxe Tower I, which is under construction and all is about to change at the Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico property owned by Grupo Vidanta.

Today, The four Mayan Palace buildings nearest the beach have been replaced with pools and a lake. Cafe del Lago is barely visible from the Grand Bliss, as it is overshadowed by the Grand Luxxe Towers I and II. In the distance, the Punta is at the southernmost tip of the property, at least as it stands today.

This photo shows the southwest view in front of the Mayan Palace as seen from the Grand Bliss.

Actionslax has sent us new images of the changes that continue at Vidanta's Nuevo Vallarta property. On May 26, 2012, his photo of the front area of the Mayan Palace shows the extent of the changes taking place.

The center tower of the Mayan Palace is now five stories tall and the deck area of the Cafe del Lago is expanding. Of course, the foliage is gone.

There is one other point Actionslax made: La Vacama is the location for the new resort that Vidanta says it will develop in the Dominican Republic. This is in the Punta Cana region. From what we can see from the image Actinslax sent us, La Vacama looks very nice, don't you think?

We will be seeking additional information about the area and post what we find. One website we found interesting so far shows a panoramic view of the beach at La Vacama. You can view it by following this link: La Vacama beach at 360Tourist.net.

A Dominican Republic real estate broker called Emil Montas posted on YouTube in June, 2009 a video with information about a property called Playa La Vacama.
Video is no longer available.

Thank you Actionslax - very nice update!
