MEXICO CITY, Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Inspired by the natural beauty of the Riviera Maya and rooted in rich local culture and Mexico heritage, the Vidanta Theater for Cirque du Soleil was announced as the 2015 Building Project of the Year by leading Mexico publisher Grupo Expansion and architecture and construction magazine Obras. Built by Grupo Vidanta, a leading developer of resorts and tourism infrastructure in Mexico and Latin America, the Vidanta Theater houses Mexico's first resident Cirque du Soleil performance, JOYA.

The Building Project of the Year award recognizes the most important construction projects and professionals for innovation, development, engineering, technology use and economic impact; this is the 13th year Obras magazine and Grupo Expansion has presented the award.

A panel of expert judges selected the Vidanta Theater for Cirque du Soleil at Riviera Maya as the most important facility constructed in Mexico from a competitive applicant field of more than 1,000 building projects, citing the theater's social and economic impact, innovation in theater architecture and engineering and consideration of Mexican art and heritage.

Ivan Chavez, executive vice president of Grupo Vidanta, said, "It is an honor to receive this award for the Vidanta Theater. This project is a clear representation of Vidanta's ability to integrate architecture, innovation and art into all tourism experiences we build in Mexico. The Vidanta Theater for Cirque du Soleil at Riviera Maya is the result of creativity and imagination from architects, designers and engineers, who blended the natural beauty of the surrounding jungle with the 2,500-square meters stately theater to create a dreamlike visitor experience. The theater's shape resembles a grand palapa, surrounded by a beautiful cenote and crowned with palm leaves opening to the skies. Local woods were used for pergolas and decorative elements, while furniture and textures reflect Mexican design and help transport visitors into a magical setting befitting of a Cirque du Soleil performance. 600 seats are available in the Vidanta Theater, with distinct dining and champagne areas, two bars and two lounges.

Grupo Vidanta completed construction of the Vidanta Theater for Cirque du Soleil in only 18 months, adhering to high quality standards required for the safety of performing artists and the public. Development of the award-winning theater generated approximately 250 jobs during construction, and year-round operations provide permanent employment for 284 people. Since launching in November 2014, JOYA by Cirque du Soleil has operated at near capacity for each performance housed in the Vidanta Theater.

MEXICO CITY - The Highway Nuevo Necaxa-Tihuatlán won the September 10, 2015 the 'Project of the Year 2015' that the magazine gives the project works, built in the country last year, more contribution and importance.

The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Reforma Hotel Mexico City, where the most important projects is also recognized in the categories of Building, Housing , Infrastructure , Interior and Planning and Urban Equipment.

In addition there were two honorable mentions. One was given to Rubik 534, Craft Architects, and the other premises in Ordaz, of T3arc Workshop Art and Architecture .

SPECIAL: Work of the Year 2015

The selection of the finalists and the winner of Work of the Year was conducted by a panel of specialists, who received material, along with a presentation and interviews to question the candidates.

Editing Work of 2015 received a total of 120 projects from 27 states of the Mexican Republic. The three entities contributed more projects were: Federal Distrtito (33), Jalisco (13) and Yucatán (11) covering almost 50% of all works received.

And although the statements referred to above are those with greater participation, the State of Mexico, Puebla and Quintana Roo are the first places that are worn on investment. The three meet more than 63% of total investment of all participants.

This stretch of road was built with the main purpose of having a direct connection between Mexico City and the Gulf of Mexico, triggering the economic development of different regions of the State of Mexico, Puebla, Hidalgo, Veracruz and Tamaulipas, and offering a highway high specification to increase the quality indices of transport of goods and services in the region.

With the construction was completed, in full, the Mexico-Tuxpan highway corridor, achieving a significant reduction in travel time between Mexico City and the Port of TuxpanM; this is 6 hours to 2 hours 45 minutes.

Importantly Tuxpan now stands as the closest to the capital, something that is generating greater trade flow of goods and people between these points seaport.

The project involved the construction of a type A4S A4 motorway and according to the specifications of the standards of technical services of the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation governor s (SCT), with a design speed of 110 km / h, slope 4% maximum gradient of 6%, with a length of 36.6 km with 21 m and 14 m crown roadway.

Six twin tunnels were built 12 bridges including a special bridge called 'Ing. Gilberto Borja Navarrete '(with a length of 850 meters and a height of 225 meters. It is the second highest bridge in the world of its kind. Two ecological overpasses, 13 VIP's and 4 PIP's were also built.

The main activities of the project highlighted the executive design of earthworks, tunnels and structures, plotting and leveling, construction of earthworks, drainage works, tunnels, bridges, paving and complementary works, as well as the horizontal and vertical signaling and intelligent transport systems (ITS).

The 'Ing. Bridge Gilberto Borja Navarrete 'is undoubtedly the most important challenge. Its central stack of 225 m high, the second highest stack in the world makes it a unique structure worldwide.

Its design was in charge of the engineering team of FCC, one of the companies in the consortium. This bridge is one of the most important structures of the highway projects internationally.

Improves mobility and movement of users shaft Acapulco-Mexico-Tuxpan in Veracruz axis without crossing the Federal District, saving time and resources to it. This urban design and landscape is designed to revive the central city of Tampico, one of the most important cities in the Gulf of Mexico, creating a linear park of 1.5 kilometers, recreation and tourism, which communicates with a storm system the Panuco River to the Laguna del Carpintero.

It is part of a broader effort that includes cleaning up the lagoon through the construction of a treatment plant wastewater.

Previously the channel was heavily contaminated, it was not navigable and the houses were built to the edge of the cause. The aim was to recover the public space and create a navigable route stormwater from the lagoon to the ocean

The project was developed based on the need to create a permanent theater in Riviera Maya and could accommodate, appropriately, an exclusive show by the Canadian company Cirque du Soleil.

The design, therefore, had to integrate all the specific elements of a complex and versatile theatrical production and had to follow, step by step, the process of developing the show.

Also the architectural language and design of all elements of the theater, from the structure to the last interior detail, reflect the essence of the story and amplify show that Cirque du Soleil has in this space. The natural context in the theater a natural extension, it lost between cenotes and tropical jungle.

Bullfighting is a shopping and entertainment center with cuadradosde 100.000 meters rentable area. Cinépolis has 15 screens; Selecto Chedraui supermarket; Inditex stores, Axo, Palacio de Hierro and Liverpool Carso and Alsea restaurants and CMR.

It has five levels; one power center with supermarket and services; three fashion mall containing shops and restaurants with a park of 6.000 meters cuadradosen the upper level and a fifth above this level uproots commercial base, on the side of Rio San Joaquin three office towers of 30, 22 and 18 levels respectively.

Also on the commercial base a 15-story hotel with 225 rooms stands. This will be a Fiesta Americana hotel operated by Grupo Posadas.

The most important challenge was to complete the project in less than 30 months (including a suspension of a few weeks) with the objective that was fulfilled, the mall opened in November 2014; just before the holiday season.
