East Cape Update

January 15, 2019

East Cape is under construction. This usually is a good sign. However, there are many reasons why completing projects often times is prolonged. A good example is the Mayan Palace tower in Acapulco. None of us remember when it was started, but we do have a photo dated 2-16-2009 of when it was up and ready to be finished. It finally opened three years later 2012.

The East Cape property is going to be terrific! Beautiful water and beaches. Off the grid. Following are photos we recevied from Ricky and Scott. Thank you to both of you for these terrific photos, and thank you to Scott for the update. First the update:

Update on East Cape: January 2019
Building at the Vidanta East Cape property (near Cabo San Jose) has begun during the last 4-5 months (We have seen pictures of the property from June 2018 that showed no resort construction activity). The overall property plan is for a line of Luxxe buildings on the east and west side of the property. In the resort center will be located the large pool area, restaurants, activity areas etc. At the edge of the hill behind the common areas are where the Spa, Lofts, and Residence buildings will be located (in a semicircle around the hill). The Estates may be there and at several other locations. The road into the property has already been completed. It takes 25 minutes from the Cabo Grand Mayan to get to the future resort or about 45 minutes from the airport.

Currently under construction are two Luxxe buildings (6 floors each?) on the east side of the future resort. The building nearest the ocean is about 80% done (structure only) and the building behind it has the foundations completed. A third Luxxe building is planned behind these two. Probably a crew of 50+ workers are currently working on East Cape.

Needless, much needs to be done, over many years, but at least, some progress is being made. No work on the main section of the resort is underway. No evidence of power or water lines nor of earth movers is visible. Our guess is that Vidanta will build the three Luxxe buildings to the east, then work on the three to the west. These will probably be left as skeletons, with no interior work completed until later (the hotels at the Park in Nuevo are currently only skeletons). A water plant (using ocean water) will also need to be constructed along with the golf course.

How long will this all take? Our speculation is several years, 3 to 5? For Vidanta to complete a large portion of the project would need hundreds of workers for several years. Construction would continue, the Vidanta way, for several years after. Progress is good, but don’t book a room quite yet.

Terrific update! Thank you.
